Worth the Wait

Writer's picture: Kaela SKaela S

Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV)

But those who wait on the Lord

Shall renew their strength;

They shall mount up with wings like eagles,

They shall run and not be weary,

They shall walk and not faint.

As we are entering into another holiday season …our homes are soon to be filled with the smells of our favorite foods. One of the things I most look forward to is the smell of pastries from my Mom’s oven.

I love a good sweet potato pie y’all!

As a kid, I remember staring at the pie baking in the oven excited that I would soon be able to have a slice. I would constantly ask my Mom if it was ready to take out, and start to become impatient when I continuously heard “No, not yet”. After what seemed like forever, the pie would reach this beautiful orange-ish, amber color, and my Mom would pull it out. There I was with a plate and fork in hand but my Mom would then tell me I had to wait for it to cool down before cutting into it.

My anxious impatience had turned to anger at that point. I had already waited what seemed like forever for it to bake but THEN I had to wait AGAIN just for it to cool down? To my “kid-mind”, this was an injustice. I would stomp away from the kitchen, and sink into the couch out of frustration that my Mom would not let me enjoy the pie when I wanted.

But wouldn’t you know, after some time passed, it was eventually time to cut the pie. And every time, after taking the first bite, I would always realize that it was worth the wait.

So as an adult, I hope that we’re reminded to not settle for less due to impatience. Don’t let go of your hope just because you believe it’s easier to be emotionally detached. Bring God your sadness, anger, and frustration. Tell Him that you’re disappointed He didn’t bring you the “pie” you asked for 3 years ago. He’s strong enough to handle all of you and actually wants you to bring it to Him.

So if you are in a season where things don’t quite look like what you hoped for, and you may be angry at God because you feel like you have been waiting for SO long, I hope that you challenge yourself to find the beauty in where you are and are encouraged to believe that whatever it is that God promised you that hasn’t happened in your life yet, will be well worth the wait. Hang in there, girl.

Prayer

Jesus thank You for Your love for me. I trust that You are good no matter the circumstance. Help me to steward this current season well and let go of what I thought things would look like by now. Hold me close and restore my hope in You. Remind my heart that You can do anything. In Jesus name, Amen.
