Y'all I don't have cable nor Netflix so as you can imagine, I spend most of my time watching videos on Youtube whenever it’s screen time. I love watching sermons, podcasts, and, oddly enough, I enjoy watching family channels! Have y’all heard of Beleaf In Fatherhood?? Glen and his wife, Yvette, create content with their 4 children (and dog) and I am almost obsessed. They’re so cute!
One video I watched, they were playing a game called Boomerang Fu. You could watch them play on the screen and listen to their family yelling, “Save me!” “Don’t jump in the water!” “Ooooo, I just died!” all in excitement, with hopes of winning each round.
I admit, normally I watch their channel to relax and take a break from the information overload received from mindlessly scrolling and one too many podcasts. But, one day, while I was watching, something stood out to me.
In the middle of the game, one of the kids was calling out to his brother “Heal me! Heal me! Heal me!” And was majorly disappointed when his brother failed to revive him before the round ended.
The brother immediately responded, “How can I help you when I’m in a fight?”
And that hit home.
Especially for many of us that are looked at as leaders in any capacity. Whether at home, at work, in your friend group, or even just as a follower of Christ. Many people may look to you to have the answers, provide coaching, motherly wisdom, relationship advice, or be a backbone of strength all while you may be fighting your way through your own life.
How are we supposed to help others when we’re being drained from our own battles?
If you feel this way in this time, I hope that you find rest and comfort in your journey. I hope that you make it a priority to be more intentional about your relationship with God, as providing support to others when you’re worn out can feel impossible.
When exhausted, someone may be tempted to turn back to their old way of life, old sources of temporary comfort, or their old disbelief, unsure if pushing through will all be worth it.
A part of the refreshment and rest you need to keep going may just be found in fixing your focus.
Read Isaiah 40...
Isaiah 40 (NLT)
28 Have you never heard?
Have you never understood?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of all the earth.
He never grows weak or weary.
No one can measure the depths of his understanding.
29 He gives power to the weak
and strength to the powerless.
30 Even youths will become weak and tired,
and young men will fall in exhaustion.
31 But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint.
So, girl, don’t grow tired of doing the right things, we're also reminded in Scriptures that we’ll eventually reap a harvest if we don’t give up.
Hang on to that promise.
I pray that the Comforter fills your heart. I pray that there’s a strength that comes and floods your spirit. I pray that when you want to give up, you’re reminded of the prize that lies ahead. Seek Him for all your needs. Jesus, give us the strength, boldness, and Spirit to keep going. Fill us with joy along the journey. You said we are more than overcomers. Fill any weary heart with a fresh Wind. In Jesus name, Amen.
