Genesis 19:16-17 (NLT)
16When Lot still hesitated, the angels seized his hand and the hands of his wife and two daughters and rushed them to safety outside the city, for the Lord was merciful. 17When they were safely out of the city, one of the angels ordered, “Run for your lives! And don’t look back or stop anywhere in the valley! Escape to the mountains, or you will be swept away!”
Y'all remember the story of Lot’s wife? Lot and his wife were living in a CORRUPT city. The people were immoral and doing everything EXCEPT what God told them to. Like the complete opposite. Imagine a city with no laws, rules or morals and that would be this town.
God’s plan was to destroy the entire city. BUT, because He knew of a man that was faithful to Him, Abraham, who petitioned God to save the righteous in the city, God decided to give Lot (Abraham's nephew) and his family, the opportunity to leave the town before it was completely destroyed. Although Lot was hesitant to leave, angels guided Lot, including his wife and daughters, out of the city and directed them towards safety with one major instruction… “Run for your lives! And don’t look back….”
Most of us know that as they were fleeing the town, Lot’s wife looked back and immediately died.
But have you ever felt the feeling of FOMO? Especially as a new Christian, you may feel as though there’s something you left behind in your old life.
I am writing this to remind you to not look back, missing what God brought you out of.
Here you are now. In a new place, with the hand of God on your life. It’s beautiful if only you would open your eyes to see it. You’re now free to be who you were created to be and to live a life of purpose. You have the God of the Universe watching over you in love.
Remember to watch out for those thoughts that make you think your old life was better or that you’re missing out on something. Redirect your thoughts into what actually matters in the temporary time we have on this Earth. Don’t lose sight of the joy you felt when you first encountered Jesus.
Prayer
Thank You for Your grace in pulling me out of the life I used to live. Help me to appreciate where You have me now and give me hope for wherever it is that You’re taking me. Fill up the places in my heart and life that feel empty. Thank You for seeing me and saving me. In Jesus name, Amen.
