So Much Better This Way

Confession - Romans may just be my favorite book in the Bible. Well definitely top 5. Is it OK to have favorites?

Anyway, as I was reading through the book, this verse popped out at me.

‭‭Romans‬ ‭6‬:‭20‬-‭21‬ ‭AMP‬‬

”When you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness [you had no desire to conform to God’s will]. So what benefit did you get at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? [None!] For the outcome of those things is death!“

Y’all when I read that scripture I literally gasped. Did Paul really have to say it like that? What benefit did you get at that time from the things you’re now ashamed of??? He obviously did not come to play with us and he was not about to waste any time.

But seriously, how true is that? Sometimes I catch myself missing my “old life” or the things I used to be able to do with “0” conviction. But then I remember how things really were and Scriptures like this remind me that it was all worthless.

As a follower of Christ, we’re now on the path of goodness. We have an eternal prize and a deep love that can never be taken away.

Don’t miss your past, don’t harbor too long over past decisions. Lean into the new life that you get to experience with Jesus.

Learn about the well that never runs dry. Hear about a God who understands the groans of His children and notices every emotion on your face. Discover the God that doesn’t see your past failures, but sees you as a daughter that He loves deeply. Talk to the One who started a good work in you and will carry it out to completion.

Thank goodness that we serve a God who wants to see us prosper. Choose to believe that He’ll cause everything to work together for your good. Even if it’s still ugly right now, keep walking with Him. Trust me, it’s so much better this way.
